Post-season play begins Tuesday for Lady Marshals and Marshals

District soccer tournaments get underway this week starting today with the first-round games for both girls and boys at Graves County High School. The Lady Marshals and Marshals both earned the top seed in the tournament and will play their first game on Tuesday.

In the girl’s bracket, Mayfield and Graves County play Monday with the winner getting the Lady Marshals at 5:00 on Tuesday. Murray and Calloway County play on Wednesday and the championship game takes place Thursday at 5:00.

Mayfield and Graves County also begin play on the boy’s side on Monday. The Marshals will meet the winner of that game on Tuesday at 7:00. Calloway County and Murray will play their semifinal on Wednesday. The boy’s championship will be played at 7:00 on Thursday.

In their final regular season game last Thursday, the Lady Marshals beat McCracken County 1-0 on a Kelsey Crass goal and Zoe Maxlow assist. Peyton Parker had five saves. They finish the regular season 13-4-2 and perfect in district games at 8-0 and undefeated in games against region opponents at 10-0.

Since their first meeting in October 2013, the two teams have played 12 times and the Lady Marshals have won 10 of the 12 against the Lady Mustangs and have never lost with two resulting in ties. Nine of the 10 wins over that time have all been shutouts.

The Marshals wrapped up their season against South Warren on Thursday and lost 3-0. Steven Claborn had seven saves. They finish the season with a 12-4 record, 7-1 in district play and 9-2 in the region.
