Parker’s hat trick leads Marshals in 4-0 win over Murray

Logan Davis (4) and Logan Parker (19) celebrate Parker’s second goal of the game in the Marshals 4-0 win over Murray. Parker earned the hat-trick with his third goal of the night in the second half.

Tuesday’s game against Murray was a must-win for the Marshals in their quest to nail down that all-important #1 seed in the district tournament. Murray beat Marshall County 2-0 earlier this season in the first of the two-game series, breaking a streak of seven straight wins by the Marshals over the Tigers.

In the August 23rd loss at Murray, the game was scoreless until Murray put two in the net with less than four minutes remaining.

“At their place, we didn’t play the soccer I know we can”, Head Coach Byan Blevins said, adding about Tuesday’s win that “from top to bottom, we did what we were supposed to do”.

Logan Parker headed in the first goal just under eight minutes in, off an assist from Jericho Evans. Freshman Braden Burnham put the Marshals up 2-0 with 14 minutes left in the half and just over a minute later, Parker scored his second goal of the game.

A physical game filled with fouls and several cards saw Preston Lamb receive a red card before the half, forcing the Marshals to play a man down the remainder of the game and the lead was 3-0 at halftime.

The Marshals held things in check down one player in a less active second half and found the net one more time on a goal by Parker who earned the hat-trick with nine minutes remaining.

They out-shot Murray 10-5 and 6-5 in shots on goal. Marshals’ keeper Steven Claborn had six saves and a total of 30 fouls were called in the game. Murray keepers Hank Fronza and Pierson Kerrick combined for five saves.

Saturday, they beat Collins 2-1 in the Purple Classic in Bowling Green. Logan Davis and Jericho Evans with the two goals.

Improving their record to 7-2, their next game is at home against Paducah Tilghman (7-2).
