Christian Fellowship only undefeated team in the region at 5-0

Lillian Burnett sends the ball past Calloway County blocker Carson McReynolds. Burnett, a senior, has played for Christian Fellowship since the eighth grade.

Christian Fellowship’s Lady Eagles are 5-0 and remain the only team in the First Region with an unblemished record, while handing Murray and Marshall County their only losses so far this season. They return their entire roster from last year’s 22-15 team under Head Coach Suzie Burnett in her 13th season.

CFS beat Murray 3-0 (25-13, 25-5, 25-18) to open the 2022 season then followed that up with a 3-2 (26-24, 25-27, 24-26, 27-25, 15-9) win over Graves County. The win over Murray was the 20th straight, a run that dates back to October 2014.

The next two matches would also go five sets in a 3-2 (25-15, 17-25, 29-27, 20-25, 15-13) win over Marshall County and 3-2 (25-22, 25-18, 15-25, 20-25, 15-11) victory over Community Christian Academy. CFS lost both games last season to the Lady Marshals, one regular season and the last in the Fourth District Tournament championship game. It was the Lady Eagles 16th consecutive win over CCA.

Tuesday, they earned their third district win in three straight sets over Calloway County (25-16, 25-9, 25-11). Seniors Lillian Burnett led in kills with nine and Cori Hood had four kills and four aces. Lillian Griggs, a junior, led in assists with nine and digs with six. Seniors Rhema Howard and Jayden Jackson had five digs each and four digs a piece came from Burnett and Gracie Howard. Griggs and Ava Phillips each dropped in three aces.

Gracie Howard attempts to thread the ball between a couple of Calloway County blockers in the Lady Eagles 3-0 win on Tuesday.
Cori Hood, serving for the Lady Eagles, dropped in four aces in their straight set win over Calloway County.
