Marshals earn 5-0 shutout over Mayfield

Junior goalkeeper Steven Claborn pulls in one of his three saves in the Marshals 5-0 district win over Mayfield.

The Marshals won their first district game of the season 5-0 over Mayfield on Thursday and are 2-0 in the first week of the season. The Marshals program has won the last 34 games over Mayfield, dating back to the 2004 season, but the Cardinals of late have steadily improved and are now a force in the region.

A scoreless game at halftime, the Marshals quickly put a point on the board just a couple minutes into the second half on a goal by senior Jericho Evans. Evans scored again to make it a 2-0 game then earned the hat trick with his third goal of the night.

Logan Parker scored the fourth goal with 12 minutes remaining in the game and Dalton Warmath found the net to make it a 5-0 game. Evans and Parker also had assists on two of the goals.

The Marshals out-shot Mayfield 23-4 with 12 on goal compared to three for the Cardinals. Goalkeeper Steven Claborn had three saves for the Marshals.

Next up on the schedule is a home game on Tuesday against Graves County, a doubleheader with the Lady Marshals.

Tommy Robertson (23) heads the ball away from the goal on the defensive end for the Marshals.
