Mr. Russell Craig Morris, 57, passed away at 4:22 p.m. on Friday, July 15, 2022, surrounded by family at his home in Mayfield.  Though his birth certificate listed him as Russell, he held a variety of names and titles, “Russ”, “PFC Morris”, dad, “Pop Pop” – but the real ones knew and loved him simply as “FatCat”.
Russ was born in Cape Girardeau, MO on October 27, 1964 to Bobby and Barbara Morris, little brother to Debbie and Brad, older brother to Marissa, father to Audrie and Adyson and the grandfather of Lillian Grace.  Though his early education days were spent in the county, he would gladly let you know his heart and energy resided in being a Mayfield Cardinal and an OG member of the MHS football “Dog Pound”.  He spent 9 years in the Army, 3 of those as a 95B Military Policeman, serving his country with the 142nd Military Police Company, the 571st MP Company stationed at Ft. Ord, California and Joint Task Force Bravo at Paleirola Air Force Base in Honduras, making relationships he cherished his entire life.  After the Army he held a variety of positions in sales, management and the food industry, but the work he valued the most was pouring himself into the people around him.  He loved to mentor, especially young men and women going into the military.
Russ grew up in the pews of First Assembly of God Church in Mayfield, a foundation that helped him through many things in life.  Loving the Lord, he had a heart to witness and serve others around him in any manner he was asked to do.  A master storyteller, he was blessed with a quick wit and love of words he could weave together to encourage you, make you laugh or warm your heart.  He loved to cook, write, and was a lifetime fan of Nascar, the Kentucky Wildcats and his beloved New York Jets football.
Russ is survived by his parents, Barbara (Jim) Wallace and Bobby (Sylvia) Morris both of Mayfield; two sisters, Debbie Morris of Mayfield and Marissa (Perry) Oliver of Hickory; one brother, Brad (Suzie) Morris of Mayfield; two daughters, Audrie Morris and Adyson (Joe) Goalder of Mayfield; one granddaughter, Lillian Goalder of Mayfield; several nieces and nephews; and countless cousins who loved him dearly.  He was preceded in death by grandparents, Bill and Ruby Shipwash and grandmother, Irene Crawford.
“In life, we loved you dearly, in death we love you still.  In our hearts
you hold a place that no one could ever fill.”
A memorial service for Mr. Russell Craig Morris will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at First Assembly of God Church in Mayfield, KY.  Bro. Larry Meade, Pastor Brad Morris and Rev. Chad Lamb will officiate.
