Marshals finish third, claim four State Track titles

Marshall County track and field brought home four state titles after competing in the KHSAA State Track and Field Championships. As a team the Marshall County boys took third in the state with 66.50 points, behind first place St. Xavier with 81 points and second place Male with 72. The top three teams distanced themselves from the field. Dupont Manual won the girls team title.

Cade Flatt, University of Mississippi commit, is a four-time state champion, taking wins in the 400 meters, 800 meters, 4×400 relay and 4×800 relay.

The 4×800 relay team of Ethan McCarty, Will Davis, Samuel Lanham and Flatt crossed in first place with a time of 7:58.45 which broke Class 1A and 2A state records dating back to 2008 and 1998. They beat the team from St. Xavier by four seconds.

Flatt’s win in the 400 meters with a time of 47.66 surpassed the previous records in Class 1A and 2A and by the slimmest of margins was just short of the 3A record. Flatt won his second straight state championship in the 800 meters, defending the title with a time of 1:52.93. He was followed by teammate Will Davis, who is headed to the University of Texas at Tyler, in second place with a time of 1:54.58.

The 4×400 relay team consisting of Preston Lamb, McCarty, Davis and Flatt, defended their 2021 state championship, winning the state title in convincing fashion, crossing the line in 3:19.65, six seconds ahead of second place Oldham County.

Ben Fiser finished state runner-up in both shot and discus. The University of Cincinnati bound field  event specialist threw 53-9.75 in shot and 165-11 in discus. Fiser won the state title in discus in 2021.

Also finishing among the top 10 in the state, Cole Mills placed seventh in high jump with 6-0 and Laney Evans seventh in pole vault with 9-6.

Kian Court finished just out of the top 10 in 11th in the 110 meter high hurdles with a time of 16.01.

In running events, Preston Lamb placed 14th in the 400 meters in 51.70 and Leah Vincek finished 22nd in the 800 meters in 2:33.30.

The Marshall County team had a strong showing in the throwing and jumping events. Phoebe Ramsey placed 13th in shot with a throw of 32-10.25 followed by Bailey Allred in 18th with 31-6.50. In discus, Chaney Fulton finished 14th with 99-11 and Georgia Hall finished 16th with 97-5.

In triple jump, Rylee Thompson placed 20th with a jump of 31-3.25 and Presleigh Jennings was 22nd with 28-7. Jennings placed 16th in high jump, clearing 4-8. In boys triple jump, Alexander Holman placed 16th with a jump of 39-10.
