Lady Marshals advance to district title game against Calloway County

With Monday’s 12-1 win over Chrisitan Fellowship in the 4th District semi-final, the Lady Marshals advance to their 16th straight championship game since the 2006 season. Head Coach Mallory Newton also earned her 100th win since taking over the program in 2018.

They will meet Calloway County, who beat Murray 2-1 in Monday’s second semi-final, in Tuesday’s championship game at 5:30 at Marshall County High School.

The CFS Lady Eagles struck first, going up 1-0 to start the game after Jayden Jackson led off with a double. Jackson advanced to third on a ground out by Gracie Howard then scored on another ground out hit by Renee Shields.

Marshall County took a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the first after Charley Pursley led off with a single, she scored the first run on a sacrifice by Madyson Morton. Allicen Harris doubled, Chloe Coursey reached on an error and Gracelyn Darnall drove both runs in then scored off a triple hit by Chevelle Henson.

Harris led off with a single in the bottom of the third, Coursey connected for a hit and Darnall doubled to bring in the first of eight runs in the inning. An inning highlighted by an inside the park home run by Harris that gave the Lady Marshals a 12-1 lead that held up for the win through the top of the fifth inning.

Harris took over pitching duties in the second inning and earned the win, striking out eight and giving up two hits.

CFS ends their season with a record of 10-6, the second straight winning season for the Lady Eagles under ninth year head coach Trevor Jackson and their entire roster will return next season.
