
Diana Yancey, age 67, of Paducah, passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at Ray & Kay Eckstein Hospice Care Center.
Diana was born in Paducah on August 25, 1954 to Rommye Lee “R.L.” and Reba Katherine (McElroy) Yancey.
Diana graduated from St. Mary’s in 1972, then went on to receive her degree in social work in 1976 from Murray State. In 1991, she completed her Master’s degree in social work, and devoted her career to serving the children and families of the state of Kentucky. She was also a labor and political organizer. She was a proud member of Emerge Kentucky and a graduate of their 2011 class. She was also a proud member of the McCracken County Democratic Executive Committee for over 20 years. She served as a Kentucky delegate to the National Democratic Convention in Boston, MA, in 2004.
She was an expert genealogical researcher, and never tired of regaling stories of family history. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution for nearly 50 years.
She had a deep love for her family, friends, and community. Her laughter and love of humor were enjoyed far and wide. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Diana is survived by one brother, Dennis Yancey of O’Fallon, Missouri; one nephew, Christopher Yancey (Kristi) of Chickamauga, Georgia; one niece, Katie Yancey Pfitzer of Mountain Brook, Alabama; two great-nephews and four great-nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, May 9, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Palestine Cemetery with Rev. Brian Nance officiating. There will be no visitation.
