The westbound lanes of Interstate 24 continue to be restricted to one-lane at the 10.3 mile marker near Paducah in McCracken County. The westbound entry ramp at the KY 1954/Husbands Road Paducah Exit 11 Interchange is also blocked to allow emergency responders to access the area.
While traffic was blocked for response to a vehicle fire this morning at the 8 mile marker, a secondary crash caused a SEMI truck to spill a load of granite.
There is an estimated 40,000 pounds of granite scattered along the roadway and in the median at this crash site. At this time, responders are still awaiting arrival of some equipment needed to pick up the granite.
Westbound I-24 is restricted to one-lane traffic at the crash site. However, traffic is backed up. At this time, there is some optimism that one westbound lane can remain open while the spilled load is removed from the roadway.
Estimated duration is extended 2 hours or to approximately 2 p.m., CDT.
DETOUR INFO
To maintain access to the crash site for emergency responders, the Exit 11 westbound entry ramp is blocked at the KY 1954 Husbands Road Paducah Interchange.
To avoid the traffic backup along this one-lane section, westbound I-24 motorists should consider taking Exit 16 if they plan to go into Paducah.
At this time, both eastbound lanes are open with traffic slowed at the crash site.
Updates as appropriate.
