Marshals notch two wins on Saturday

Chase Hayden hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning that scored the winning run in the Marshals 2-1 win on Saturday over Sikeston, Mo.

Following a 7-2 loss to McCracken County on Thursday, the Marshals followed it up with two wins on Saturday over Mt. Vernon, Ill. and Sikeston, Mo. to improve to 12-6.

Thursday in Paducah, McCracken County took an early 4-0 lead in the first inning. The Marshals got on the board in the top of the third, scoring two runs on a bases loaded walks by Evan Oakley and Chase Hayden against Ross Aldridge on the mound.

McCracken scored two more runs in the third inning to go up 6-2, the runs coming to the plate on an error and triple by Dylan Riley. Cooper Ford singled to bring in Nate Lang in the fourth for the 7-2 lead.

Chase Mannon had the only hit for the Marshals.

Evan Oakley threw a no-hitter in the Marshals 5-0 win on Saturday over Mt. Vernon and he improves to 5-1 on the season which ranks first in the state. He currently ranks third in the state in strike outs with an average of 10.95. He was also big at the plate, bringing in the Marshals first run in the first inning with a double. Chase Hayden scored on an error and Parker Gibbs, running for Oakley, scored when Ty Davenport hit into a fielder’s choice for the early 3-0 lead.

Ethan Landis scored on a passed ball in the third inning and the final run came in the fifth inning on a Conner Mannon RBI single.

The Marshals earned their second win of the day on Saturday against Sikeston. With a 1-1 tie at the end of six innings, the 2-1 win came on a two-out walk-off single off the bat of Chase Hayden that scored Jace Driver who reached based on walk.

Pitching duties were split between Reese Oakley and Hayden.. Hayden earned the win over three innings, striking out four while allowing just one hit to earn the win.
