Ribbon Cut on Aurora Facility for Asian Carp Processing

Brian Colgan cuts the ribbon on the new Colgan Carp Solutions facility in Aurora

(Aurora, KY)-New England faces a 70 million pound lobster bait shortage this year and the bait problem isn’t going away – neither are the invasive Asian Carp on Kentucky and Barkley Lakes.

Brian Colgan founded Colgan Carp Solutions to provide a private sector answer to the Asian Carp problem. Their business models Asian Carp into a sought-after commodity with opportunities for entry into various markets.  From bait to fertilizer, pet food and human consumption…there are numerous entry points for Asian Carp. To start, Colgan is turning Asian Carp into Lobster Bait.

On Wednesday, Colgan Carp Solutions held a ribbon cutting and press conference at their new facility in Aurora. Colgan said, “After working 15 years in government, we saw a way to leverage the market as a way to control this invasive species.  We can be more effective in our strategies with more of a partnership in protecting our environment.  Our role is to compliment the government and  Army Corp of Engineers interventions.  The more of the Asian Carp that we can remove, the better it will be for the Bass and Crappie in our lakes and rivers.”

Former NFL Running Back and Major League Baseball Outfielder Bo Jackson, a partner and board member for Colgan Carp Solutions was on hand as well and said his reason for being involved is to simply give back. “I’ve been in a position where the public has pulled for me.  Now that I am out of that realm, it’s all about giving back.  From employment to all of my philanthropic things that I do, that’s the main reason for my involvement. We see the issues that the fishers are seeing with the Asian Carp problem. While we can’t stop it completely, we can help slow it down.”

Colgan Carp Solutions currently has a staff of eight, but will be looking to hire more in the near future.
