Freeland announces $58,680,000 in funding for road and infrastructure projects

Frankfort, Kentucky (April 14, 2022) – Marshall County will receive $58,680,000 in funding for
road and infrastructure projects. Today’s announcement comes on the final day of a legislative
session that resulted in a fiscally responsible state spending plan that makes significant
investments upgrading and replacing the state’s outdated infrastructure, including transportation,
water and waste water, and broadband.
“Improving our community comes in many forms including upgrading our dated infrastructure,”
said Representative Chris Freeland. “I am extremely pleased to share this news and glad that we
were able to get these projects into the road budget. Every dollar we spend on roads and
infrastructure is an investment in our future as a community.”
The funding is part of HB 242, which provides more than $2.9 billion for the maintenance and
construction of state roads over the next two years. The measure also includes $370 million for
the rehabilitation and construction of bridges and sets aside $250 million to match federal dollars
for mega projects in Northern, Eastern, and Western Kentucky.
The Marshall County allocation is earmarked for the following projects:
– $750,000 to improve access and reduce congestion on US-62 from KY-95 to the existing
four-lane highway at Lone Valley Road near I-24 interchange and future I-69 connection
– $1,540,000 for a bridge project on KY-408 at the overflow structure.
– $1,600,000 to replace the bridge on Egners Ferry Road, located 1.1 miles east of US-641
at mile point 8.94.
– $4,000,000 to replace the bridge on Egners Ferry Road, located 1.5 miles east of US-641
at mile point 9.79.
– $9,170,000 for a bridge project on KY-408 at Clarks River.
– $1,010,000 for a bridge project on KY-402 at Martin Creek.
– $9,030,000 for a bridge project on KY-402 at the east fork of Clarks River.
– $30,000,000 for a bridge project on I-24 at the Tennessee River.
– $1,580,000 for a bridge project on KY-2603 at Soldier Creek
