Lady Marshals finish 3-2 in Myrtle Beach, SC

Tia Thorpe hit two home runs and finished with six RBIs in the Lady Marshals 14-2 win on Tuesday over Russell County at the Ripken Experience. Thorpe also earned the win in six innings, holding the Lakers to three hits and allowing two runs.

The current #18 ranked Lady Marshals played five games over three days at the Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, SC. this week and finished 3-2.

Monday, they opened with a 14-3 win over Knox Central and did it on 17 hits. Chloe Coursey went 3-for-3 with a double and four RBIs. She plated three runs off a bottom of the third single. Allicen Harris was 3-for-4 at the plate with four RBIs. Harris kicked off the 8-run bottom of the third with a 2-run single. The win went to Emily Garland who struck out six in the first two innings, allowing no hits and one run.

The Lady Marshals followed up the win over Knox Central with their second win of the day over North Bullitt 15-4 on 12 hits. It was another good outing at the plate for Chloe Coursey who had four RBIs and was 2-for-5. Madison Morton was 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs and Allicen Harris had two hits and three RBIs. Gracelyn Darnall picked up the win over four innings, allowing six hits, four runs and struck out three.

Two games on Tuesday started with an 8-2 loss to #23 Mercy (6-1). After a scoreless four innings, Mercy scored a run in the bottom of the fifth and the Lady Marshals went up 2-1 in the top of the sixth. Mercy followed the Lady Marshals two runs with seven in the bottom of the inning. Allicen Harris led at the plate, bringing in the Lady Marshals two runs on a double. Gracelyn Darnall took the loss allowing nine hits and seven runs.

Anna Vasseur was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate in the Lady Marshals 14-2 win over Russell County. Vasseur had hits in all five of their games in Myrtle Beach, finishing 11-for-15.

The Lady Marshals were back in the win column with Tuesday’s second game when they defeated Russell County 14-2. Tia Thorpe was huge at the plate with two home runs and six RBIs. Both inside the park home runs came in the first and sixth innings. Anna Vasseur was 4-for-4 with an RBI, Gracelyn Darnall 2-for-4 with three RBIs and Chloe Coursey 2-for-4 with an RBI. Thorpe pitched six innings to earn the win, allowing three hits and two runs.

They finished up their five games with an early morning contest on Wednesday against Lawrence County. Lawrence County won 2-1 on five hits in a defensive battle. Both teams scored one run in the second inning and Lawrence County added one more in the third which proved to be the game-winner. Chevelle Henson drove in Allicen Harris for the Lady Marshals only run after Harris led off with a triple.

With a record of 8-5, after a few days off from competition, the Lady Marshals will play at Trigg County on Tuesday before hosting the Marshall County Slugfest April 15-16.
