Lady Marshals shut out Murray 8-0, fall to Calloway in district games

Marin Oakley was caught stealing second after reaching base with a single in the Lady Marshals 2-0 loss to Calloway County. The eighth grader was 1-for-1 at the plate on Tuesday and against Murray on Monday went 3-for-4 with a double in the 8-0 win over Murray.

District games began this week for the Lady Marshals starting with Monday’s 8-0 win over Murray. Gracelyn Darnall threw the complete game shutout while allowing just three hits. Marin Oakley went 3-for-4 at the plate with a double, Charley Pursley was 3-for-3 and Allicen Harris 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs.

An RBI single from Harris in the top of the first and RBI on a ground out by Anna Vasseur in the top of the third gave the Lady Marshals a 2-0 lead until they added four more runs in the top of the fifth.

After singles by Oakley and Pursley, Vasseur earned her second RBI after Oakley scored on an error. A triple by Harris scored a run and an RBI bunt by Chevelle Henson made it a 6-0 game. The final two runs came in the top of the sixth on a Vasseur single and sacrifice by Harris.

The Lady Marshals lost 2-0 to Calloway County in Tuesday’s home game, the first regular season loss to the Lady Lakers in 10 years.

Calloway County scored on an error in the first inning and scored their second run in the top of the sixth on a 2-out single by Ashlynn Bazzel that scored Carson McReynolds who reached on a single.

In the bottom of the seventh with two outs, Madyson Morton took base after she was hit by a pitch and Layla McDowell singled to put the tying run on. Gracelyn Darnall battled Calloway pitcher Izzy Housden at the plate but struck out looking to end the game.

Tia Thorpe is replaced by base runner Emma Reynolds (15) after she walked and reached second in the bottom of the third against Calloway County.
