
Funeral services will be held at his home church March 31, 2022, Faith Missionary Baptist Church, 1258 US Hwy 641 N, Benton, KY 42025. Visitation is from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. with services starting at 1:00 p.m. Bro. Nathan Ruggles will officiate with Bro. Paul McWherter assisting. Burial will follow in the Amberg Cemetery, 2880 State Route 125, Hickman. Collier Funeral Home, Benton, KY is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 55 years, Peggy (Gray) Amberg, 19 nieces and nephews, 24 great nieces and nephews.
Bro. Bill was born in Memphis, TN on January 2, 1944 to the late Bill and Norma Amberg of Hickman, KY. Bill has many cousins who he considers brothers and sisters plus his loving church family.
Bro. Bill graduated from Fulton Co. High School in 1962 and then graduated from Murray State University 4 years later with a degree in teaching. Upon graduation, he married Peggy whom he met in college. He began teaching in the Fulton County School System where he taught history and physical education and coached.
On June 19, 1968 Bill was called into the Army where he served until his honorable discharge on March 18, 1970. He served in Vietnam from Nov. 25, 1968 to Nov. 22, 1969. After his tour of military duty, he returned to teaching in Fulton Co., Hickman, KY for one year and then moved to Cotter, Arkansas where he and his wife taught school for 3 years with Bill teaching history, physical education, and coaching basketball and baseball.
During his stay in Arkansas, God called Bill into the ministry to preach the gospel. He surrendered to the call on Nov. 2, 1973.
Bro. Bill began his preaching ministry at Bible Baptist in Eddyville, KY, May 23, 1976 and then God moved him to Bethel Baptist Church in Porter, IN, and from there to Faith Missionary Baptist Church on October 21, 1987 in Benton, KY where he ministered for 30 years. Bro. Bill served in the ministry preaching God’s word for 44 years till God took him home.
