
Hosting the Big Orange Classic over the weekend, the Marshals swept their three games starting with a 5-3 win on Friday over Festus, Mo. Saturday they beat Muhlenberg County 6-4 and Fort Zumwalt South, Mo. 5-0 to improve to 5-2 on the season.
Friday’s 5-3 win came on six hits led by Conner Mannon with two singles and two RBIs.
The Marshals opened with two runs in the bottom of the first. Mannon led off with a single then crossed the plate on a sacrifice hit by Ty Davenport and Ethan Landis scored on a fielder’s choice. They added one more run in the bottom of the third when Alex Staples scored on a passed ball to take a 3-0 lead.
Festus scored a run in the top of the third and two in the top of the sixth to tie the game at 3-3. The Marshals added two runs in the bottom of the sixth to earn the 5-3 win, Chase Hayden and Staples both scoring on a single by Mannon.

In Saturday’s 9:00 a.m. game against Muhlenberg County, the Marshals took a 6-0 lead at the end of the fourth inning but the Mustangs wouldn’t go down easy, scoring two runs in both the sixth and seventh innings.
Mannon, Landis and Staples all contributed two hits each in the nine hits recorded by the Marshals.
The Marshals 3-run bottom of the second began on a single by Reese Oakley and Hayden reached on an error. Parker Gibbs running for Oakley, stole home for the Marshals first run, a single hit by Staples scored Hayden and Staples scored on a single by Mannon.
Their three runs in the bottom of the fourth were scored on a Clayton Wyatt single and a 2-RBI pop up by Evan Oakley who reached on an error.
Reese Oakley struck out 13 batters over six innings, allowed two hits and two runs to earn the win.

The Marshals shutout Fort Zumwalt 5-0 in the night cap game of the Big Orange Classic behind the pitching of senior Evan Oakley who went the distance, striking out 12 and allowing four hits.
They went up 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth when Chase Shelton, running for Evan Oakley, advanced to third on a wild pitch then scored on an error.
Four runs in the bottom of the fifth were scored by Staples on a bunt by Mannon, a single by Landis, single by Evan Oakley and Landis scored on an error.
