Track and field athletes braved a cold blustery day on Saturday competing in the Marshall County Invitational of the South. The girls’ team from Henderson County took first among a field of 23 teams and the boys’ team from Marshall County took first place honors among 19 teams.
The Lady Marshals recorded three first place finishes. Leah Vincek won the 800 meters (2:35.44), Macy Scott won the freshman 1600 meters (6:38.36) and Laney Evans took first in pole vault (8-06).
Along with those three top finishes, the team had 13 top 10 results on Saturday. Both the 4 x 200 (2:02.50) and 4 x 400 (4:45.95) relay teams placed second and the 4 x 400 took fifth (4:46.95). Georgia Hall took third in discus (95-06) and Bailey Allred fourth in shot (31-02) and seventh in discus (87-02). Also with top 10 finished in shot, Chaney Fulton placed fifth (30-09) and Phoebe Ramsey sixth (30-05.50).
Following Henderson County’s first place team finish, Calloway County was second and Mt. Vernon third.
The Marshals had six first place finishes and 21 top 10’s on their way to a team first place finish. Cade Flatt won the 400 meters in 47.29, breaking the old meet record of 48.59, set by Flatt last year. Ben Fiser was a double-winner in both shot (53-01) and discus (153-06) and Samuel Lanham took first in the 800 meters (2:09.16). The 4 x 400 (3:33.89) and 4 x 800 (8:41.97) relay teams rounded out the first place finishes.
The team from McCracken County took second and third went to Mt. Vernon.
