Kentucky State Police Investigating Fatal Collision in Lyon County
Eddyville, KY. (January 31, 2022) – Troopers with Kentucky State Police (KSP), Post 1 are investigating a Monday morning fatality pedestrian collision. Just before 7:00 a.m., KSP Post 1 received a call from a motorist in the 15000 block of KY Highway 93 in Lyon County who reported they saw what appeared to be a body lying in a field near the roadway. KSP Post 1 troopers and detectives responded to the scene to investigate the incident.
While troopers were on scene, a man arrived on scene and told troopers that he may have been the one who struck the female. He reported that he heard police were in the area working a fatality and he returned to the scene.
Initial investigation shows Katie Coulstring, 29 of Cadiz, KY was walking north on Highway 93. Lynn Ballard, 58 of Eddyville, KY was traveling north on Highway 93, operating a 2007 Chevrolet 1500 pick-up truck, when he collided with Coulstring. Coulstring was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Lyon County Coroner.
The investigation is ongoing by Sergeant Eric Fields. Kentucky State Police, Post 1 was assisted on scene by Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, Lyon County EMS, the Lyon County Coroner, and the State Highway Department.
