CFS advances in All “A” Classic with 71-46 win over Ballard Memorial

CFS sophomore Gracie Howard scored 32 points to lead the Lady Eagles to a 1st Region All “A” Classic win over Ballard Memorial.

Gracie Howard reached 30 points in a game for the third time this season in Christian Fellowship’s 71-46 win over Ballard Memorial in the first round of the 1st Region All “A” Classic. Averaging 24.5 points per game, Howard also picked up her third double-double of the season with 10 rebounds.

Howard’s 32 points led four players for CFS in double figures in the win including another double-double night from Lillian Burnett with 10 points and 16 rebounds. It was Burnett’s eighth double-double in their 12 games this season.

Improving to 10-2, the Lady Eagles advance to Thursday’s semi-final of the All “A” Classic at 7:45 in Mayfield and will now wait to see who their opponent will be.

A 15-6 first quarter lead grew to 37-14 at halftime behind 16 first half point from Gracie Howard. Jayden Jackson scored seven of her 12 points in the game in the second quarter. Jackson hit one of her two 3-pointers early in the quarter to give the Lady Eagles a 20-6 lead, then finished the half off with the final two field goals, the last on a turnover picked up by Howard who tossed it to Jackson for the lay in.

Jackson’s inbound to Howard under the goal opened the second half scoring before a 9-0 run by Ballard cut the Lady Eagles lead to 39-23 prompting a time out from Head Coach Trevor Jackson. Out of the time out, CFS scored seven straight and went on to extend their lead back to 22 points heading into the fourth quarter.

Howard finished off her night with 10 of her 32 points in the fourth quarter in the 71-46 win, the second highest point total of the season for CFS.

Nevaeh Yates led the Lady Bombers with 14 points and Kaylee O’Conner with 13.

In the eight times CFS and Ballard have played since the 2004 season, the first six have gone to the Lady Bombers but the Lady Eagles have now won the last two.
