Marshals come up short in loss to Caldwell County

Wade Moore, in Tuesday’s game at McCracken County, led the Marshals with a season-high 23 points in Saturday’s loss to Caldwell County in the Western Kentucky Showcase held at Crittenden County.

Caldwell County senior Jabrion Spikes scored 34 points to lead the Tigers in a 58-52 win over the Marshals on Saturday in the Western Kentucky Showcase hosted by Crittenden County. It was Caldwell County’s first win over Marshall County since 1992.

Wade Moore, who was averaging 8.6 points per game coming into Saturday, had his highest point total of the season so far with 23 to lead the Marshals.

They trailed 5-0 early and cut it one on the first four points by Quinn Smith but were down by seven heading into the second quarter.

A steal and basket by Smith cut the Tigers lead down to three points in the second quarter and five straight points from Moore tied the game at 23-23. Colin Whittington’s three to end the quarter put the Tigers up by three at halftime.

Back-to-back 3-pointers by Moore gave the Marshals their first lead at 36-34 midway through the third quarter and their lead would grow to six points at 44-38 to start the fourth.

Seven straight points from Spikes fueled a 10-0 run by Caldwell County to stretch out a six-point lead before Kolby Schroader ended it on a 3-pointer to pull the Marshals to within three points at 50-47.

Trailing by four at 54-50 with 28 seconds to go, the Marshals come-back efforts fell short in the 58-52 loss.

Tuesday, they play Trigg County (7-6) at home at 7:30. The Wildcats last game on Jan. 4 ended in a triple-overtime loss to Webster County in the Kentucky 2A Championship sectional tournament. Friday at Graves County, the final 16 seconds of the Dec. 10 game will be played out before the regular scheduled game at the Eagles Nest.
