On Dec. 17 in their game against Community Christian Academy in CCA’s Christmas Tournament, the Eagles won 58-54. Saturday, the Warriors returned the favor, beating CFS 70-58 in Saturday’s 1st Region All “A” Classic game.
CCA jumped out to a big lead at the end of the first quarter at 17-4 before the CFS baskets started falling in the second quarter. They outscored the Warriors 20-18 but still trailed 35-24 at halftime.
CFS trimmed the CCA lead down to eight points at 49-41 heading into the fourth quarter, but the Warriors held on to pick up the 12-point win and advance to round two of the tournament against Murray on Tuesday.
Isaac Hovekamp led in scoring for CFS with 22 points, Elijah Grigg finished with 14 and Andrew Dunning with his sixth double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds. Jamison Smith’s 23 points led CCA. Smith hit five 3-pointers and was 8-of-8 at the free throw line.
After losing their first seven games of the season, CCA has won their last four straight.
Up next on the schedule for the Eagles is a district game at home on Friday against Calloway County. They will be looking to even their two-game series with the Lakers after losing 80-58 on Dec. 18.

On Tuesday, the Eagles beat Fulton City 63-32. They were led in the win by 20 each from Luke Grigg and Andrew Dunning. Isaac Hovekamp had eight points, all from the free throw line. Dunning had 12 rebounds and Luke Grigg 10.
