Lady Marshals stay undefeated with wins over Graves, Benton, Ill.

Mia Teague, guarded by Graves County’s Nealey Jackson, had nine points in the Lady Marshals win including two 3-pointers. Teague followed it up with an 11-point game against Benton, Ill. on Saturday and hit behind the arc.

Draffenville – After Friday’s 50-36 win over Graves County, the Lady Marshals followed it up with a 43-23 win over Benton, Ill in Saturday’s US Bank Shootout at McCracken County and are off to a 4-0 start.

Tonight, the Lady Marshals and Marshals will play their first district opponent this season at Murray High. Admission has been waved for the games and cash donations will be accepted at the door for tornado relief.

Jada Driver led the scoring with 17 points in Friday’s win over Graves County, Halle Langhi had 14, Mia Teague nine and Chevelle Henson with eight. Their largest lead of 10 points came near the end of the quarter, cut to seven points on a buzzer-beater three by freshman Hannah Glisson for the Lady Eagles.

Play was then suspended for approximately 45 minutes due to the first tornado warning of the evening then play resumed with the start of the second quarter.

Outscoring the Lady Eagles 11-5 in the quarter, they took their largest lead of the half at 30-15 and led by 13 at the halftime break.

Graves County cut the lead to 10 points while the Lady Marshals couldn’t get one to drop until nearly four minutes in on a basket by Langhi. Driver hit her third three of the game for a 37-24 lead that was cut by two on a final basket for the Lady Eagles by Glisson.

Graves County cut the deficit down to 10 points at 39-29 in the fourth quarter with 5:38 left to play and again at 41-31 with 3:55 on the clock. A three from Teague was the start of a 9-to-5 finish with the final basket coming on a pass from Izzy Washburn to a wide-open Henson under the goal for the 14-point win.

It was the first loss for the Lady Eagles after a 4-0 start to their season.

Chevelle Henson, sandwiched between Graves County’s Lilly Hayden (5) and Nealey Jackson, finished with eight points in their 14-point win over the Region 1 rival.

In Saturday’s US Bank Shootout, the Lady Marshals 20-point win over Benton, Ill was the work of three players in double-figures. Langhi led with 16, Driver added 13 and Teague scored 11. Henson rounded out the scoring with three points.

Most of Benton’s scoring came from one player, Ensley Tedeschi who had 14 of their 23 points.
