Lady Marshals celebrate another historic golf season

The Lady Marshals had a lot to celebrate at their recent end of the season banquet including their second straight state title. Pictured (L-R) Katie Roberts, Cecilia Ray, Savannah Howell, Megan Hertter, Trinity Beth, Elsie Riley and Coach Aaron Beth.

The back-to-back State Champion Lady Marshals golf team celebrated their season with a banquet recently. This season, the Lady Marshals placed first in 10 out of 12 tournament including the top prize – the KHSAA State Golf Championship. The team broke 300 three times including a new school record low of 285 at The Lady Spartan Invitation at Crosswinds GC in Bowling Green.

The five-time Region 1 Champions finished the season with a team average of 304.6.

The state title was the only time in the history of Marshall County sports programs a team has won back-to-back state championships and while doing so, set a new KHSAA State Tournament record low two-day score of 614 with all 5 players braking 80 on day 1 (Trinity 75, Savannah 75, Megan 77, Katie 79, CeCelia 79).

They recorded team scores of under 300 in three tournaments and had six individual medalists including three by Trinity Beth, Savannah Howell with two and Megan Hertter placed first in one. They consistently placed all team members in the top 10 individually in every tournament throughout the season.

In his third season, Head Coach Aaron Beth also repeated as KGCA (Kentucky Golf Coaches association) Co-Region 1 Coach Of the Year and KGCA (Kentucky Golf Coaches association) Girls State Coach of the Year.

Beth, an eighth grader, earned her second straight Kentucky Ms. Golf selection and named Golf House Kentucky Girls Junior Player of the Year and AJGA Girls Junior All Star Team.

All members of the Lady Marshals team were selected to the All-Region Team and Beth, Howell and Hertter earned All-State Team selections.

Our two seniors, Megan and Savannah, have finished 4th, 3rd, and 1st (twice) in the KHSAA State Championship during their four years of high school”, Coach Beth said. “They have worked extremely hard both during the season and more importantly during the off season to raise the levels of their games to new heights. They have been great leaders and role models for the younger players and it has been my privilege to have had the opportunity to coach such fine young ladies.”

Individual accomplishments:

Savannah Howell (Sr) (74.86)  2 Individual Wins, 2 2nd place finishes, and 5 other Top 10 Finishes, Finished (T11th) at both the KGCA All State Tournament and the KHSAA State Championship, made the KGCA All Region Team 4 years, earned KGCA 1st Team All State honors for the 3rd straight year(finishing 7th in All State Points with 825) Has played high school golf for 8 years and will continue her golf career at Western Kentucky University.

Megan Hertter (Sr) (75) 2 Individual Wins, 3 2nd place finishes, and 7 other top 10 finishes. T21st at the KGCA All-State, and was 9th at the KHSAA State Championship. Made the KGCA All Region Team 4 years, earned 2nd Team All State honors the past two years(finishing 12th in All State points with 745)  Has played high school golf for 6 years and will continue her golf career at Florida Southern College.

Elsie Riley (Jr) (86) Had a 12th place finish at The Lady Maroons Invitational at Pulaski County and a T25th finish at the Bowling Green Invitational. Elsie finished the season with 75 All State Points.

Katie Roberts (Fr) (83.4) Finished 7th in the Regional Tournament shooting even par on the back 9.  Finished T18th at the KHSAA State Championship saving her best golf for the postseason shooting 79 and 81 in the two Rounds at the KHSAA State Championship and ended up with 120 All State Points.

Trinity Beth (8th) (72.54) 3 Individual wins, 2 2nd place finishes , and 5 other top 10 finishes. Won the KGCA All State Tournament in a 3 hole playoff, and finished solo 2nd going 2 under in her last 5 holes at the KHSAA State Championship. Set a new school scoring record shooting a 65 at the Lady Spartan Invitational. Was named Region 1 Player of the Year, earned 1st Team All State honors for the 2nd straight  year, and was named Kentucky Miss Golf for the second straight year with 1170 All State points.  Was also named Golf House Kentucky Girls Junior Player of the year and was named to the AJGA Girls Junior All Star Team. 

CeCelia Ray (7th) (82.4) CeCelia had 2 top 10 finishes at the Greenwood Lady Gator Invitational and the South Warren Lady Spartan Invitational shooting 76 and 75.  She also shot a 79 in the opening round of the KHSAA State Championship in Bowling Green and ended the season with 155 All State Points.
