Mary Louise Anderson, 93, Benton, KY, passed away on November 2, 2021 at Calvert City Convalescent Center. Known to everyone as Mary Lou, she was born to parents William and Mary Terry on March 30, 1928, in New Albany, Indiana.
Mary Lou is survived by her son, John Keith Anderson, Benton; and sisters, Wilma Coleman, Fort Wayne, IN and Janet Boardman,(Charles) Baltimore, MD. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl George Anderson; sister, Norma Terry; brother, William Terry II, and her parents along with several brother and sister in laws. She has several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
Mary Lou graduated from New Albany High School in 1946. She studied nursing at the Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, IN.
One evening after Christmas shopping, Mary Lou met Earl George Anderson from Corydon, IN. Earl had completed his service in the U.S. Army Air Corp, and she had just passed her state board of nursing exams and was working at the New Albany/Jeffersonville Hospital. Mary Lou and Earl married at St. Marks Church, in 1950 in New Albany, IN.
In 1952, the couple moved to Calvert City where she began a position as the nurse at B.F. Goodrich while he was a supervisor at Airco Alloys &Carbide. Mary Lou also worked as a nurse with Dr. Carroll Traylor at the Calvert City Clinic. Mary Lou worked for many years at Benton Hospital later called Marshall County Hospital.
Mary Lou attended Briensburg United Methodist Church. In her retirement years, she also joined the Senior Friends from Mayfield and began taking group trips. The trips took her out West putting her in a hot air balloon at the Albuquerque Balloon Festival; visiting the Canadian Rockies; Vancouver, Canada; Alaska; Hawaii; Puerto Vallarta, Mexico; Panama; Cayman Islands; Russia; Greece; England; Scotland; Wales; Australia; and New Zealand.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Collier Funeral Home, 211 West 5th Street, Benton, KY 42025.
Interment will follow in the Marshall County Memory Gardens, Benton, KY.
Visitation will be held between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 5, 2021 at Collier Funeral Home.
