Cross Country teams compete in State Championships

Marshall County cross country teams loaded the bus Friday, headed to the KHSAA State Cross Country State Championships.

Saturday at a wet, rainy Bourbon County Park in Paris, Ky., the Lady Marshals and Marshals cross country teams continued their impressive run of KHSAA State Cross Country Championship appearances.

Combined, a total of 561 of the top cross country runners from across the state lined up to compete on the 5K course Saturday in Class 3A.

The top Marshall County results for the girls came from junior Katelyn Ringstaff who finished 134th in 22:45.68. Eden Sandlin, an eighth grader, finished 169 with a time of 23:15.49. Ringstaff finished 33rd among juniors in the race and Sandlin 22nd among the eighth graders competing.

Following Ringstaff and Sandlin, senior Leah Vincek finished 204th (24:27.25), Elizabeth Barrett 231st (25:42.63) and Olivia Hibb 262nd (28:00.34).

Madison Central’s Ciara O’Shea took first with a time of 18:25.42, nearly a minute over the second place finisher.  The team from Assumption won the state title, duPont Manual finished second and Oldham County third.

Ethan McCarty had the top finish for the boy’s team, placing 113th with a time of 18:40.75. McCarty ranked 32nd among juniors at the meet. Sawyer Collins, a junior, finished 229th in 20:13.57 for the second best finish for the Marshals. Walker Jones was 246th (20:39.43), Eli Rudd 254th (20:52.22), Dallas Sutherland 256th (20:59.79), Jett Sealock 261st (21:08.95) and Keifer Siress 279th (22:55.62).

Sami Hattab from St. Xavier (Louisville) won the individual state title, finishing in 16:32.29. The team from Conner won the team title, St. Xavier was second and Trinity (Louisville) third.

The top girls Class 3A Region 1 finish came from Daviess County in 13th and for the boys, Apollo finished ninth.

Katelyn Ringstaff (1791) had the top finish for the Marshall County girls on Saturday at Bourbon County Park.
Ethan McCarty had the best finish for the boys team on Saturday. It was McCarty’s fifth straight year to compete in the cross country state championships.
