Work Zone Lane & 8 ft. Load Restriction on U.S. 62 Cumberland River Bridge at Lake City starting Monday, Oct 25

Work to take about one month to complete

PADUCAH, Ky. (Oct. 19, 2021)  A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) plans a daytime work zone lane and 8 ft. load width restriction on the U.S. 62 Cumberland River “Blue” Bridge at Lake City starting Monday, October 25, 2021.

This work zone on the U.S. 62 Cumberland River “Blue” Bridge at the Livingston-Lyon County Line is to allow maintenance work on the steel truss, including work on some of the Gusset plate connections.

Due to the use of an Under Bridge Inspection Vehicle (UBIV) to facilitate the work, there will be a strict 8 ft. maximum load width restriction on the bridge deck.   Extended delays are likely during the movement and placement of equipment to accommodate the work.

Motorists should be alert for one lane traffic with alternating flow controlled by flaggers during daylight hours.  The contractor plans to remove the lane restriction during the overnight hours.

Appropriate caution is required where equipment, flaggers, and maintenance personnel are along the bridge deck in close proximity to traffic flow.

Intech is the prime contractor on this $55,468 bridge maintenance project.  The target completion date is November 19, 2021.

The US 62/US 641Cumberland River Bridge is at the Livingston-Lyon County Line immediately below Barkley Dam at Lake City, KY.

The 1,466 ft. cantilevered Warren through truss bridge with a 700 ft. main span was opened to traffic in 1952.  Also, known as The Blue Bridge and the Eureka Highway Bridge, the structure carries approximately 6,000 vehicles across the Cumberland River in an average day.

The bridge is at US 62 Livingston County mile point 2.852 and Lyon County mile point 0.0.

The Eureka Highway Bridge is located at Cumberland River navigation mile point 30.0.
