Marshall County team aiming for first-ever Kentucky League title

Race #4 of the Kentucky Interscholastic Cycling League was held on Sunday in Lexington at Veteran’s Park. The Marshall County High School team leads in standings heading into the State Championship followed by Bluegrass Berms Composite team in second and Warren County Composite in third.

After winning seven state titles while competing in the Tennessee League, the Marshall team hopes to maintain their lead and win the first team title of the inaugural Kentucky League.

Six Marshall County team members placed first on Sunday. Allie Burkeen (JV Girls), Claire Austin (Sophomore Girls), Memphis Ford (Sophomore Boys) and Arianna Akins (Freshman Girls) in the high school races. In middle school races, Braxton Lima and Emma Roberts took first in the Eighth Grade division.

Burkeen, Ford, Austin and Akins all lead the overall series in points going into the State Championship.

Wins in the Varsity races came from Foster Bloch (Bluegrass Berms Composite Team) and Samantha Clark (Revolution Development Composite). The JV Boys’ race was won by Daley Glisson (Paducah-McCracken Composite) and David Komprs (Bluegrass Berms Composite) won the Freshman Boy’s race.

Marshall County is excited to host the final race – the KICL State Championship – at the Kentucky Dam State Resort Park on the Bo Beckett Trail on October 24th. Races get underway at 9:30 a.m. with the final wave starting at 12:30.
