Marshals play for 24th district title Thursday

John Wood (28) goes up for the header goal attempt on a corner kick from Jericho Evans in Tuesday’s district tournament semi-final win over Mayfield.

It will be a fourth straight appearance in the 2nd District Championship game and the Marshals will be looking for their fourth consecutive and 24th program title after advancing with Tuesday’s 3-0 semi-final win over Mayfield.

Collin Riley set the early tone on the rain-soaked field with a goal just four minutes in and eight minutes later put the Marshals up 2-0 with his second goal of the game. Five minutes later near the 23′ mark, Kian Court scored off a William Lynch assist for a 3-0 lead that held until the final whistle.

Lynch had two assists, bringing his total to 16 which ranks 28th best in the state. Collin Shadowen assisted on one goal. It was the Marshals 11th shutout which ranks fourth in the state and ninth for goalkeeper Steven Claborn. He ranks third in the state in complete game shutouts and had two saves against Mayfield.

The Marshals will meet the winner of tonight’s Calloway County/Murray semi-final in the title game on Thursday at 7:30.
