In the first of two games with their district opponents so far this season, the Lady Marshals have swept the first go-around with Tuesday’s 5-0 win over Murray, out-scoring their four Second District opponents 22-0.
Kinsley Perry on an assist from Zoe Maxlow put the Lady Marshals on the board in the first half and it remained 1-0 until halftime. Less than eight minutes into the second half, Kelsey Crass scored two straight goals to put the Lady Lakers in a quick 3-0 hole.
Less than halfway into the second half, they put the game away on two more goals – the first by Kallen Fuller on an assist from Mia Teague and Maxlow scored her second goal of the night for the 5-0 win.
Coach Michael Boone was happy with the way his team is creating more opportunities for shots saying in post-game comments, “We’ve got to do a lot better job finishing off those opportunities we’re creating. Sometimes it’s individual creation but a lot of times it’s been team creation.”
“All in all, especially the second half, I thought we played well and they didn’t really have much going on the attack which says a lot about us defensively. We played seven or eight different backs. Our three midfielders played a lot better in the second half, moving a lot better and more cohesively.”
They improve to 5-1 and look forward to two big games on Saturday against Sacred Heart (6-0-1), the reigning state champions, at 11:00 a.m. in Louisville. Later in the day at 4:00, they will head northeast a few miles to take the field against Oldham County (4-0-1). Both time are Eastern Standard Time.
