Mountain bike team competes in first Kentucky League race

The Varsity and JV girls race start on Sunday at the Race #1 Prologue in the first year of the Kentucky Interscholastic Cycling League fall season.

Since the October 2019 announcement that Kentucky would be the next state to join the National Interscholastic Cycling League (NICA), anticipation and excitement has been building toward their inaugural season which kicked off this past weekend with a Prologue at Twisted Oliver in Scottsville, Ky.

With 127 racers from across the state, the first ever Kentucky Interscholastic Cycling League race was a huge success and they look forward to Race #2 which takes place in less than two weeks on September 12 in Frankfort at Capitol View Park.

It was also a very successful day for the Marshall County team who enters their ninth season after competing in the Tennessee League for the past eight years. The team placed first in nine of 14 races ranging from middle school through high school among the 29 riders from Marshall County who competed on Sunday.

First place finishes came from Chase Binkley and Olivia Myhand in the Varsity races, Allie Burkeen in the JV girls race, Memphis Ford and Claire Austin in the Sophomore races, Arianna Akins in the Freshman girls race, Brady Atkins and Emma Roberts in the 8th Grade races and Dalton Powell in the 6th Grade boys race.
