Marshall players take Irvin Cobb titles after Sunday’s rain out

Paxton Park Golf Course hosted the 85th Irvin Cobb Golf Championships this past weekend. Saturday’s first round scores proved to be decisive after Sunday’s second round was rained out.

Patrick Newcomb finished Saturday’s round at 7-under (64) tied with Fred Meyer and the two were declared Professional co-champions. Nick Newcomb finished in a tie for eighth with an even-par round of 71.

Among the Amateur players, Drake Stepter won with a 9-under round of 62. A few more Amateur results among Marshall County players included Quinn Eaton finishing tied for third with a round of 68, Hunter York T5 with 70, Derek Riley shot 73 to finish T8 and Tyler Powell and Bo Brien both shot rounds of 74 to tie for ninth.

Marshall County High School players Ryan Stokes took first with a 3-over par 74 and Trey Wall finished second with a round of 75 in the Junior division.

Stokes and Wall recently took wins in the Kentucky Junior Golf Western Kentucky Junior Championship held at the Country Club of Paducah July 12-13. Wall won the 15-18 division, finishing the two days at +7 (73-78=151) and Stokes won the 14 & under division at +12 (77-79=156).
