Repairs to Smith Creek Bridge expected to take about a week to complete
PADUCAH, Ky. (June 23, 2021) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) plans daytime closures on a section of KY 1949/Wadesboro Road in Marshall County starting on Monday, June 28, 2021.
KY 1949/Wadesboro Road will be closed to all traffic from 8:30 a.m., CDT, to 4:30 p.m., each day, at mile point 6.536 to allow repair work on the Smith Creek Bridge.
This week the Smith Creek Bridge (079B00105N) was posted with a 3-ton load limit after an inspection indicated deterioration of the bridge substructure. Daytime closures of the bridge the week of June 28 are to allow the KYTC District 1 Bridge Crew and engineers to initiate emergency repairs to the structure.
The Smith Creek Bridge is along KY 1949 approximately 1/2 mile north of the KY 3526/Tom Lane Road intersection.
The 3-ton load limit restricts the Smith Creek Bridge to vehicles no heavier than a pickup truck or SUV. The goal of the daytime repair effort is to improve the load rating so that emergency vehicles and school bus traffic may safely cross the structure.
The repair work is expected to take about a week to complete.
The bridge will be open to traffic during the overnight hours. Motorists and truckers should be aware that the 3-ton load limit will remain in place until the repairs are completed and the load-carrying capacity of the structure has been recalculated.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will attempt to provide timely updates as the work progresses.
