Jimmy Ray Spears, 74, of Benton, KY passed away on Monday, June 7, 2021 at his residence.

Jimmy was born on December 10, 1946 in Pensacola, FL to the late Luther and Marie Spears and was later raised by his mother and stepfather, J.T. Hooper. He graduated from Draughon’s Business College and was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of the Briensburg Masonic Lodge #401, the National Rifle Association, and a member of Hardin Baptist Church.

Jimmy worked as a truck driver for Yellow Freight Corporation and later owned and operated Hooper’s Feed Mill. He was a jack of all trades who could build or fix just about anything. He enjoyed woodworking, carpentry and working on his classic cars that he had collected throughout the years. He was an avid snake hunter who spent many hours hunting alongside his dogs in areas nearby his house. More than anything else, Jimmy was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who always put his family first.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Dana Travis Spears; his daughter, Tiffinie Lovett (Chris) of Benton, Kentucky; two brothers, Larry “Cat” Spears (Florence) of Benton, Kentucky and Ronnie Spears (Mary Ann) of Benton, Kentucky; and his grandson, Andrew Lovett of Benton, Kentucky.

He was preceded in death by one infant son, Ken Spears; one brother, Carroll Spears; his mother, Marie Haggard Hooper; his stepfather, J.T. Hooper; his father, Luther Spears; and his mother and father-in-law, Sadie and Donald Travis.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, June 10, 2021 at Filbeck-Cann Funeral Home of Milner and Orr with Bro. Ricky Cunningham and Bro. Mark Thweatt officiating. Burial will follow at Benton Cemetery.

A visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM on Thursday, June 10, 2021 at Filbeck-Cann Funeral Home of Milner & Orr.
