Marshals head into final week of the regular season

This past week, the Marshals played McCracken County on Tuesday, falling to the top five ranked Mustangs 10-2. Thursday they beat St. Mary 15-3 before dropping both games on Saturday in Louisville – losing 7-3 to Warren East and 7-6 to Male in an extra inning.

Against McCracken County, the Marshals led 2-1 after two innings. The Mustangs added three runs in the bottom of the third and held a 4-2 lead until the bottom of the sixth when they put six runs on the board, the scoring beginning with two outs, to take the 10-2 win.

Their two runs in the second came on a bases loaded walk by freshman Reece Oakley that brought the first run across the plate and a sacrifice by junior Conner Mannon. They left two base runners stranded in the top of the third, the Marshals last opportunity to score.

Braden Vinyard was 2-for-3 for the Mustangs with two RBIs and a double, Ben Higdon 2-for-3 with an RBI and double and Grant Godwin had one hit and three RBIs. Chase Hayden and Griffin Darnall each with an RBI for the Marshals.

Both teams utilized three pitchers, the win going to Cooper Ford who allowed two hits and stuck out one over two and two thirds innings.

Evan Oakley picked up the win over St. Mary on Thursday, striking out 10, while allowing three hits and three runs.

Thursday the Marshals beat St. Mary 15-3 in six innings on nine hits. Chase Hayden went 2-for-2 and brought in four runs. Singles by Hayden in the second and third innings brought two across the plate, sandwiched between RBI walks in the first and sixth innings.

Evan Oakley earned the win from the mound, striking out 10 over five innings while allowing three hits and three runs.

Conner Mannon (1) scored the first two runs in the Marshals 7-3 loss to Warren East. The junior scored the first run on a steal of home plate in the bottom of the first and a run in the bottom of the third came in on a double by Brady Ives.

Two games on Saturday in Louisville kicked off first against Warren East. Tied 3-3 headed into the seventh inning, the Raiders scored four runs to pull off the late game 7-3 win.

The Marshals notched their first run in the bottom of the first when Conner Mannon stole home. Warren East tied it in the top of the second and the Marshals went back up 3-1 in the bottom of the third on an RBI double by Brady Ives. Ives then scored on a steal of home plate to record the second run of the inning.

Warren East tied it 3-3 in the top of the fourth which held through the next two innings before the Raiders put up four runs in the seventh on a single and three run double hit by Tucker Stringfield.

Tied 6-6 after the regulation seven innings, Marshall County and Male went into the eighth with Bulldogs pulling out the one point win. With two base runners on, a single by senior Sam Perkins brought in the game winner.

Evan Oakley led off in the top of the second with a solo home run to put the Marshals up 1-0 and their second run came in the top of the fourth on a sacrifice hit by Ty Davenport to cut the Male lead to 3-2.

Trailing 5-2 after five innings, the Marshals scored two runs in the top of the sixth on a double by Griffin Darnall and single by Chase Gibbs. Two more runs in the top of the seventh on sacrifice hits by Brady Ives and Chase Hayden gave them a 6-5 lead. Male tied it in the bottom of the seventh on a double by senior Matthew McDowell.

The Marshals will finish out the regular season with two home games this week. Tuesday they will host Hopkinsville (16-8) at 6:30 and Thursday will play University Heights (12-17) at 6:00.
