
Five new meet records were set on Saturday at the Area 1 Championships held at Calloway County High School. Four set by Marshall County athletes and the fifth, a new mark that broke a former Marshall record.
Sophie Galloway set new meet records in both the 100 meter hurdles and long jump, breaking her own records in both events. Her 100 meter hurdle time of 14.53 topped her old meet record of 14.66 set in 2019. In the long jump, her new meet record of 19-3.5 broke her old mark of 18.8.50 also set in 2019.
Cade Flatt set a new meet record in the 1600 meters with a time of 4:25.58, breaking his 2019 meet record of 4:31.75. Will Davis set a new meet record in the 800 meters in 2:00.02. He broke the old time of 2:01.07 set by Marshall County’s Austin Shackleford.
A new meet record in the high jump of 6-10 set by Kentucky commit Donsten Brown of McCracken County, broke the old record held by Marshall County’s Skylar VanMeter of 6-6.
Joining Galloway with another first place finish for the girls’ team was Alyssa McClain in shot put with a throw of 30-9.5. The boys’ team recorded five first place results, behind Flatt and Davis, Ethan McCarty won the 3200 meters in 10:31.97, Ben Fiser took the win in shot with 50-3 and the 4 x 400 relay team crossed in first in 3:38.30.
Four second place finishes for the girls’ team came in the 4 x 100 and 4 x 200 relays, Leah Vincek in the 800 meters and Maci Brown in discus. Ben Fiser placed second in discus for the boys’ team.
Marshall County’s boys’ team took first and the girls placed second among a field of 14 teams. Behind the Marshals – second place went to Paducah Tilghman and third to McCracken County. The Tilghman girls finished first in front of the Lady Marshals and third went to Calloway County.
Marshall County will host a meet on Tuesday and celebrate Senior Night.
