
Marshall County’s track and field teams joined 28 of the state’s top teams in competition at the invitation only Eastern Relays in Louisville on Friday and Saturday.
Top individual performances were turned in by Cade Flatt in the 800 meters. Flatt took first with a time of 1:56.72. He holds the top time in the state in the event and the 11th fastest in the nation at 1:51.76. Flatt took second in Louisville in the 400 meters in 49:13 and he currently holds the second fastest time in the state in that distance at 48:59.
Sophie Galloway placed first in the long jump with 18-09.25 and second in the 100 hurdles with a time of 14.98. Her long jump ranks first in the state and the 100 hurdle time from Saturday ranks second in the state.
Two more top performances came in the high jump from Presleigh Jennings and Tori McCracken. Jennings placed third with a jump of 4-10 and McCracken fourth with 4-08.
Will Davis recorded a top three finish with his third place in the 400 meters, finishing with a time of 49.97.
Two top five finishes also came in relay events. The boys 4 x 400 relay finished second in 3:27.07 and the 4 x 200 placed fifth in 1:37.47. The 4 x 400 relay team currently ranks fourth in the state with 3:29.69 but Saturday’s time will move up to second behind the St. Xavier (Louisville) time of 3:26.21, also set on Saturday. Relay team members Cade Flatt, Isaiah Kirby, Will Davis and Preston Lamb also set a new school mark on Saturday in the event.
Finishing just out of the top five, four sixth place finishes came in the triple jump by Rylee Thompson (31-01.75), Alyssa McClain in shot put (30-03.00), Cole Mills in high jump (5-08) and Chase Thompson in shot (46-06.00).
The Marshals finished fourth in the field of 29 teams. The team from Male took first, St. Xavier (Louisville) second, St. Xavier third and behind Marshall County in fifth was duPont Manual.
The Lady Marshals placed fifth. Oldham County took the win, duPont Manual finished second, Male third and South Laurel fourth.
Up next for the track team is the Area I Championships on Saturday at Calloway County.
