Marshals beat Graves on Friday, split games in Preston Cope Classic

Ethan Landis, in games Friday and Saturday went 3-for-7 at the plate with a double and RBI.

A 6-2 win over Graves County on Friday kicked off a three-game weekend for the Marshals. They played two games on Saturday in the Preston Cope Classic, getting a win over Crittenden County 2-1 before Graves County turned the tables from Friday’s loss to beat the Marshals 6-2 in the second game.

Friday’s 6-2 win over the Eagles came on just three hits. Clay Hale earned the win over seven innings, allowing five hits, two runs and struck out three. Ethan Landis, Evan Oakley and Tyler Knisley had an RBI each and three more runs were scored on a wild pitch and errors.

Brady Ives scored on an error to put the Marshal up 1-0 in the first inning and the lead 2-0 in the third on Oakley’s single. Chase Shelton scored on a wild pitch and Landis brought in a run with a double for a 4-0 lead in the top of the fourth.

Drew Hayden hit an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth to put Graves County on the board. The Marshals followed it up with two more runs in the top of the fifth on a sacrifice by Knisley and an error. The Eagles made it a 6-2 game in the bottom of the sixth, scoring on a double by Hayden.

Brady Ives was perfect at the plate in the Marshals 2-1 win over Crittenden County going 3-for-3. Ives tied the game 1-1 with an RBI single in the top of the fifth.

In their first game of the Preston Cope Classic on Saturday, the Marshals win over Crittenden County came on eight hits. A 1-1 tie ended in dramatic fashion in the bottom of the seventh with a walk-off double hit by junior Conner Mannon.

Crittenden County led 1-0 until the top of the fifth when the Marshals tied it on an RBI single by Brady Ives before Mannon’s double scored Chase Gibbs for the game winner.

The win went to Evan Oakley who struck out nine while allowing two hits and no earned runs over seven innings.

In game two of the Preston Cope Classic, Graves County scored a combined six runs in the first four innings on nine hits in their 6-2 win over the Marshals.

The Eagles opened with a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on RBI singles by Drew Davis and Jamison Curd. They scored their third run in the top of the third on a double by Davis before the Marshals scored two runs in the bottom of the second for a 3-2 game. Those runs coming on a single by Jace Driver and an RBI ground out by Reece Oakley.

Graves County scored a run in the top of the third on an RBI ground out by Curd and the final two in the top of the fourth came on an error and single by Drew Hayden.

Davis earned the win for the Eagles in four and a third innings, allowing five hits, two runs and striking out four.
