Roger Thies, 83

Roger L. Thies, 83 of Benton, KY passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on November 10, 2020.

Roger was born on June 28, 1937 in Sparta, IL to the late Walter and Eudean Lowe Thies. On October 15, 1955 he married the love of his life, Gloria Taylor Thies, in Corinth, MS and the two of them were happily married for 65 years. He spent 50 years working as a union carpenter and millwright for the Carpenters Local 636, where he also served as the Vice President and Sergeant at Arms during his time with the union. He loved the lake and enjoyed spending his time boating and fishing, and riding around his neighborhood on his golf cart while watching the wildlife and nature. More than anything else, he loved to spend his time with his grandkids and great grandkids.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Gloria Taylor Thies; one sister, Carolyn Reisenberger and husband David of Springfield, IL; three brothers, Larry Thies and wife Marthenia of St. George, SC, Terry Thies and wife Lynn of Fairview Heights, IL, and Richard Thies and wife Sue of San Antonio, TX; five grandchildren, Jasmine Arnold and husband Bill of Benton, KY, Jolene Biorn and husband Cody of Alamogordo AFB, New Mexico, Gabe Helvey and wife Christy of Pinckneyville, IL, Elizabeth Thies of Chattanooga, TN, Matthew Thies and wife Abby of Benton, KY; 7 great grandchildren, Lilly Arnold, Evan Biorn, Thaddeus Thies, Connor, Carter, and Cole Helvey, and Bella Thies; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Mabry Sue Henson; one son, Wade Alan Thies; and his parents.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 13, 2020 at Filbeck-Cann Funeral Home with Rev. Van Russell officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Springs Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 13, 2020 at Filbeck-Cann Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may take the form of the donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
