John David “J.D.” Thompson, 87 of Hardin, KY completed his life of service on Sunday, November 8, 2020 at Murray Calloway Co. Hospital, Murray, KY. Born on November 4, 1933 in Bamberg, SC, he was the son of the late James Edgar Thompson, Sr., and Martha Lee (Thompson) Thompson.
J.D. was a Field Electrical Engineer, working for many years with Jacob Engineering and then later retiring from Caddell Construction Co., Fort Campbell, KY. He honorably served his country in the United States Air Force and was a faithful member of the Palestine United Methodist Church in Dexter, KY.
Surviving are his wife of 22 years, Donna (Holly) Thompson of Hardin, KY. Daughter, Hope McMillan, husband Steven of Branchville, SC. Sons, John David Thompson, Jr., wife Vikki of St. Matthews, SC, Andrew Thompson, wife Martha of Barnwell, SC. Stepson, Scott Johnson, wife Lee Ann of Martin, TN. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Ashlyn Thompson, Drew Thompson, wife Kelly, Lindsay Jameson, husband Matthew, Haley Kemp, husband Zach, Anna Linder, husband Chris, Holly Johnson, and Maegan Johnson. Six great grandchildren, Miquel Smith, Brantley Wood, Aubrey Wood, Bryce Thompson, Ava Thompson and Wrynlee Linder. One sister, Carolyn Davis, husband Ray of Orangeburg, SC also survives.
In addition to his parents, J.D. was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.
A graveside service celebrating the life and service of John David “J.D” Thompson will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, November 13, 2020 at Willow Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery, 1956 Willow Swamp Rd, Norway, SC 29113. Bro. Andy Hunter will officiate. Those honored to serve as pallbearers, Matthew Jameson, Chris Linder, Zach Kemp, Drew Thompson, Grayson Thompson, Aubrey Smith and Miquel Smith.
Friends may visit with the family between the hours of 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 13, 2020 at Thompson Funeral Home, 1012 Whitman St, Orangeburg, SC.
