Dwight Cothran, 76

Dwight Ford Cothran, age 76, of Grand Rivers, KY and formerly of “Between the Rivers”, passed away at his home, October 3, 2020. He was an active member of Grand Rivers Pisgah United Methodist Church where he was a lay leader and substitute Sunday School teacher. He was a retired chemical operator with BF Goodrich/Westlake for 32 years.

Dwight was a 1961 graduate of Lyon County High School. He attended Murray State University. He served as an Army Reservist from 1963 to 1970. He was a self-taught carpenter and builder and began construction of the family home in 1974 while working full time, completing construction in 1976.

In his younger years, Dwight loved boating on Kentucky Lake and was an excellent slalom water skier. He also enjoyed coaching his son’s baseball teams. He was a lover of all genres of music, reading, and fishing. He was a passionate University of Kentucky and St. Louis Cardinals fan. An avid golfer all his life, he was a member of Calvert City Country Club where he hit a total of three holes-in-one.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Louella Cothran, Grand Rivers, KY; two daughters, Leigh Ann Osteen (Chris) of Hendersonville, TN and Natalie McLaughlin (Scott) of Nashville, TN and one son, Allen (Emily) of Bowling Green, KY; six grandchildren, Audrey, Luke and Amelia Cothran, and Ford and Miles McLaughlin; one brother, John, and one sister, Janette Moneymaker (Danny), both of Grand Rivers; two nieces and eight nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Hugh Cothran and Lovene Swihart Cothran, two brothers, Bud and Wayne Cothran, one sister, Carrie Lee Johnson and one nephew, Joey Pierce.

Graveside funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at 1:00 pm at Dixon Cemetery in Grand Rivers, KY with Rev. Dr. Brian Small officiating. Lakeland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
