Lady Marshals top field at Lady Gator Invitational

Led by Savannah Howell’s 1-under round of 71, the Lady Marshals picked up win number four this season on Monday at Bowling Green Country Club in the Lady Gator Invitational. A team score of 306 (+18) gave the Lady Marshals the win Sacred Heart Academy (309) by three strokes and four strokes over two-time defending state champions, Lexington Christian Academy (310). The field of 15 teams were some of the best in the state.

Howell placed third in individual standings behind medalist Faith Martin from South Warren who  finished with a 5-under 67. Macey Brown of Bullit East was second with a 2-under round of 70.

Adding to the team’s first place effort, Trinity Beth shot 73 (+1) to finished tied for sixth, Megan Hertter just one stroke back at 74 (+2) to finish tied at ninth, Elsie Riley shot 88 (+16) to tie for 35th and Sarah Umbarger shot 92 (+20) to finish tied at 44th.

The Lady Marshals have had at least one player shoot under par in all five tournaments they have played.  In the Lady Gator Invitational, they beat region rivals Murray High by 41 strokes (347) and McCracken County by 60 strokes (366).

The team is scheduled to play a match at Calvert City Country Club on Thursday.
