Marshall County Schools is excited to announce that MCHS junior Shelby Spencer has been accepted to the 2020 Health Researchers Youth Academy. Spencer is the first student from MCHS to be accepted to the program.
The Health Researchers Youth Academy is a three-week residential camp hosted by the University of Kentucky Area Health Education Center (AHEC) that provides an opportunity to have an immersive experience in health care research by world class UK researchers and clinicians. The program also provides participants with the chance to learn some of the requirements for majors leading to a health career.
The selection process consists of a multi-part application including a personal statement, letters of recommendation, and transcripts, which is then reviewed by a committee consisting of faculty and staff from UK and U of L AHEC offices along with other community faculty. Invitations are then extended to those students selected to attend.
This year’s program dates are scheduled for June 7-26.
MCHS is honored to send its first student to the Health Researchers Youth Academy program and wishes her all the best as she participates in this unique and rewarding opportunity. Congratulations again to Shelby Spencer!
