‘Racer Restart’ initiative and planning process underway
MURRAY, Ky. — Murray State University has announced its “Racer Restart” initiative and planning process to collaboratively, thoughtfully and proactively restart campus for the fall 2020 semester.
The University, which has been reviewing plans for the past several weeks, has established the Fall 2020 Racer Restart Committee, co-chaired by University leadership. Associated subcommittees comprised of various areas of the institution will use a shared-governance approach to address the following areas in adherence to all state and federal guidelines and a set of guiding principles to assist the University:
• Academic Affairs and Faculty Support
• Student Affairs, Enrollment Management and Campus Life
• Administrative Operations and Staff Support
• Housing, Dining and Auxiliary Operations
• Facilities Management
• Athletics
• Development, Alumni and Branding, Marketing and Communication
A University web page, murraystate.edu/racerrestart, will keep the campus and broader community informed with updates and information as continued proactive planning takes place in the coming weeks.
“We are working toward a traditional fall semester while making necessary adjustments for a new normal,” said Murray State President Dr. Bob Jackson. “Our guiding principle of the ‘Racer Restart’ initiative will be the health, safety and well-being of our students, faculty, staff and broader community. Classes begin on Aug. 18 and we look forward to a successful fall semester.”
The University transitioned to an online/alternative delivery method of teaching and learning in mid-March and will successfully complete the spring semester this week.
Nearly 400 online courses are available for both current and prospective Murray State students this summer. Students can get ahead and stay ahead in their degree requirements as convenient short-term (two-week), five-week and ten-week sessions are available. Individuals can view course options and register at murraystate.edu/summer.
Summer Orientation, a required program for entering freshmen and transfer students, will be held in a virtual format beginning later this month. New students for the upcoming fall semester who have not yet registered can visit murraystate.edu/summero.
