MURRAY, Ky. — Murray State University’s Board of Regents has approved maintaining the institution’s current tuition rate as opposed to a tuition increase, per a recommendation from the administration, inclusive of both undergraduate and graduate students for the upcoming 2020-2021 academic year.

“Murray State University remains committed to providing access and affordability for our students and their families, and we are sensitive to these unprecedented circumstances that many are facing due to the pandemic,” Murray State President Dr. Bob Jackson said. “In addition to maintaining our current tuition rate with no increase for the upcoming academic year, we have taken several measures this spring to thoughtfully assist our current and incoming students.”

These steps include the implementation of new test-optional guidelines for undergraduate admission to the institution, inclusive of new students who apply for admission to be part of this fall’s freshman class, as well as prospective students who apply for fall 2021 admission.

Additionally, through the support of the Murray State University Foundation and the private support of alumni, friends, faculty and staff as well as the broader community, the “Racers Give” campaign will assist students who are in need of financial support through the newly-established Racer Sustainability Fund. To date, the campaign has raised more than $156,000 with the goal of raising at least $250,000. This is in addition to the $233,871 raised beginning last fall for the initial “Racers Give” campaign. These funds will assist both incoming and current students beginning this fall with tuition, housing, dining and textbook expenses.

The “Racers Give” scholarship committee is currently reviewing awards for monies to be awarded to both new and current students through the campaign. New students admitted for the fall are encouraged to register for Summer Orientation at murraystate.edu/summero if they have not done so already. Current students are encouraged to register for fall classes by speaking with their academic advisor (new, incoming freshmen will register for classes as part of their Summer Orientation experience).

Individuals who are able to contribute to the Racers Give campaign can do so at give.murraystate.edu.

The Murray State Promise program provides scholarship assistance to eligible first-time freshmen and new transfer students, whose tuition may already be fully covered through this initiative. Individuals are encouraged to visit murraystate.edu/promise to learn more.

Within the past year, Murray State has been recognized as a “Best Bang for the Buck” by Washington Monthly, one of “America’s Best Colleges” by Forbes for the 12th consecutive year and a top-tier university by U.S. News & World Report for the 29th straight year.

“Throughout these recent weeks, many individuals have shared with me that Murray State feels like family to them,” Jackson said. “Even in these difficult times, we are one Racer Family. Our best days are in front of us. We will continue to provide an impactful and affordable, world-class educational experience that prepares our students well for success.”
