Closures of U.S. 45-Bypass & U.S. 45-Business for Overpass Demolition at Mayfield starts Monday, April 20

PADUCAH, Ky. (April 14, 2020) – A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans to close the U.S. 45-Bypass southbound connection between I-69 and U.S. 45 at the southwest edge of Mayfield starting Monday, April 20 ,2020.

The southbound lanes of the U.S. 45-Bypass will be closed near where it meets U.S. 45 South at Mayfield to allow demolition of the overpass that carries the southbound lanes of U.S. 45. The southbound lanes of U.S. 45 will also be closed at the overpass with a southbound self-detour along the Purchase Parkway during the demolition work.

There will be no southbound access to U.S. 45 from I-69 or the Purchase Parkway at the Mayfield Exit 21 Interchange. Motorists should self-detour via the KY 80 Mayfield Ext 22 Interchange.

Access from U.S. 45 to the I-69 Exit 21 Interchange will be maintained via one of the I-69 ramps.

U.S. 45-Business will be closed to southbound traffic near the Macedonia Road intersection and directed to the Purchase Parkway to reach all points in Graves County south of the U.S. 45-Bypass.

These closures for demolition of the overpass are expected to start promptly at 6 a.m., CDT, Monday, and be in place for about 5 working days.

Southbound U.S. 45 traffic from Mayfield to points between the U.S. 45 Bypass and Wingo will self-detour via the Purchase Parkway southbound to the KY 339 Wingo Exit 14 Interchange to reach Pryorsburg, Wingo, and Fulton.

These connections are expected to reopen sometime during the afternoon hours of Friday, April 24.

The contractor and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will provide timely notice if these connections are restored earlier than expected.

This is part of construction of the New KY 80 Mayfield Bypass. Jim Smith Contracting is the prime contractor on this $14.2 million project. The target completion date is November 15, 2020. At this time, construction of the new roadway is about 40 percent complete.
