Chester Ross, 88

Chester “Chatter” Ross, age 88 of Calvert City, KY passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2020 at the Calvert City Convalescent Center.

Born in Mayfield, KY in 1931 to the late Chester ”Buster” Ross and Florence (Weaver) Ross. Chester worked and retired from GAF/ISP in Calvert City where he was a member of the IAM Union. He was a man who loved his wife, family, his dogs, animals in general and being outdoors. He was gifted with being able to disassemble and usually re-assemble anything and it sometimes worked again.

If you ever met Chester, you understand the nickname Chatter. He was always full of stories and antics. Chester served 4 years in the US Navy awarded the National Defense Service medal, Korean Service stars, United Nations Service medal and the China Service medal upon the Joseph P Kennedy Destroyer.
Married to Sue Carter in 1952 they moved to Calvert City from Gary, IN and had 4 children, Frank Ross wife Tammie of Benton, KY, Julie Cone husband Keith of Calvert City, KY, Carrie Spissinger husband Mike of Paducah, KY and Janet Driver husband Jeff of Benton, KY.

A grandfather of Annie Colson husband Blake of Calvert City, KY, Kate Morefield husband Wes of Benton, KY, Sam Toby of Chicago, IL, Leigh Toby of Murray, KY, Garrett Dossett of Gilbertsville, KY, Jack Dossett of Gilbertsville, KY, Ali Greer of Murfreesboro, TN, Maury Greer of Calvert City, KY, Jada Driver of Benton, KY, Peli Ross of Benton, KY, and Hannah Spissinger Tapp husband James of Nashville, TN. Great Grandfather of Drake Butler of Calvert City, KY, Van Reed of Benton, KY, Sophie Donohoo of Benton, KY, McCall Anderson of Benton, KY and Jolie Colson of Calvert City, KY.

He is survived by a sister, Myrtie Dunn of Murray, KY and a brother Bill Ross wife Peggy of Mayfield, KY.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Betty Kingins, Ann Cash; and brother, James Ross.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, March 17, 2020 at Collier Funeral Home, located at 211 West 5th st, Benton, KY 42025, with Rev. Jeremy Short officiating.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 PM until the service hour of 2:00 PM on Tuesday, March 17, 2020 at Collier Funeral Home.

A gift in lieu of flowers can be made the Marshall County Humane Society in Chester’s name.
