Master Gardener Barbara Ray joined WCBL’s Cindy Riley on Coffee Call recently. Ray says not to get in too big of a hurry to start your spring gardening. It will still take awhile before the ground temperature warms up enough to start your planting. During the program, Ray discussed the top ten flowers and coming out on top, at number one, is the rose. If you want to raise roses, keep in mind they need at least six hours of sun each day. Also, decide how big you want your plant to be and whether or not you want it to be a climber. And pay attention to the description of your plant. You want to be sure to get one that is disease resistant. The master gardeners will be having their annual plant sale in May, so if you have any used pots, take them by the extension office on Mayfield highway just outside of Benton and leave them in the drop off bin.
