On December 18th 2019, the Marshall County 4-H Livestock Club held its bi-weekly meeting. Kathleen Walker, Loan Officer with River Valley Ag. Credit was in attendance and presented the club with a giant check. This generous contribution will greatly impact the educational opportunities for the club, including field trips, teaching supplies and competition expenses. The club wants to publicly say thank you to River Valley for their generosity and support!

What is the Marshall County 4-H Livestock club? It is a group of students ranging from 9-18 years old that have a passion for animals. The participants spend every other Monday night at the Extension office with program coordinators, Misty Ramsey and Kayla Driver, Agriculture and Natural Resources Agent, Nikki Bell and Extension Program Assistant, Roxanne Lee. At these meetings, members learn about agriculture, and how to care for, identify, judge, and show livestock. The club puts their practice to the test when it’s time to compete at local and statewide events. The club competes in the areas of judging, showing and skill-a-thon (like an academic quiz bowl.) The group also enjoys taking field trips, like visiting local farms. This gives members the opportunity to experience agriculture first hand. For some, these tours would have been something that they would never have experienced otherwise. Some club participants come from farm families and show their own livestock. Many others who do not own livestock, participate in judging and skill-a-thon competitions. There is no livestock ownership or previous experience necessary in order to participate.
