Briarcrest Christian beats Male, more Jalen Green in Saturday’s Hoopfest

Male and Briarcrest Christian (Tenn.) kicked off the Saturday evening Hoopfest session. Led by Tyren Moore with 21 points, Male led by five at the end of the first quarter, by 10 at halftime and stretched their lead out to 15 heading into the fourth quarter.

Fueled by a 35 point night from Briarcrest Christian’s Kennedy Chandler, they out-scored Male 31-16 in the fourth quarter to win by eight, 78-70. Chandler had help from Marcellus Brigham with 21 points, 11 rebounds and Rodney Newsom with 17 points, 13 rebounds. Chandler has a long list of teams that have made offers that include Murray State, Auburn, Florida, Kansas, Tennessee and Vanderbilt.

Dylan Wasu (3) led Our Saviour Lutheran with 27 points in their 83-75 win over Dream City Christian. Wasu was selected Most Valuable Player of the game.

Our Saviour Lutheran (NY) and Dream City Christian (AZ), two teams looking for a Hoopfest win played the second game of the evening session. Our Saviour Lutheran lost to Prolific Prep 75-71 on Friday and Dream City Christian fell to Orangeville Prep 55-50.

Dylan Wasu, a St. Johns commit, led Our Savior Lutheran with 27 points in their 83-75 win. Posh Alexander who will join Wasu at St. Johns had 22 points and was nine of 11 from the free throw line. MarJon Beauchamp led Dream City Christian with 26 points. Beauchamp plans to spend next season preparing for the draft and forgoing college.

Orangeville Prep’s Alex Nuvagha attempts a shot under 7’1″ Saba Gigiberia of Prolific Prep. Gigiberia has committed to play at Georgia Tech.

Prolific Prep (CA) and Orangeville Prep (CAN) squared off in the fourth game of the evening following the Marshall County-Prodigy Prep game. Jalen Green earned his second MVP plaque of the Hoopfest, leading Prolific Prep over Orangeville Prep with 23 points. Green is on Kentucky’s radar as well as 21 other teams.

Four Prolific Prep seniors have made commitments to colleges including Nimari Burnett (Texas Tech), Saba Gigiberia (Georgia Tech) and Coleman Hawkins (Illinois). Junior Frank Anselem has a long list of offers that include Auburn, LSU, Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee.

Trailing 51-35 at the end of the third quarter, Orangeville Prep made a run at Prolific Prep in the fourth quarter but fell 10 points short in the 68-58 loss.

Central Pointe Christian player, Victor Rosa (10) guarding Arizona Compass Prep’s Frankie Collins (1) in the final game Saturday. Rosa scored 16 points for Central Pointe in their overtime win, earning MVP honors.

Central Pointe Christian (FL) and Arizona Compass Prep tipped off in the final game on Saturday that finished well after midnight. Central Pointe Christian beat Trinity International 69-67 on Friday and were looking to make it a Hoopfest sweep, which they did but it would take overtime to do it.

Central Pointe Christian led by five at the end of the first quarter, but trailed by one point at halftime and one point at the end of the third quarter before out-scoring Arizona Compass Prep by one in the fourth to tie the game 58-58 and send it into overtime. They out-scored Arizona Compass Prep 14-6 in overtime to win 72-64.

Most Valuable Player went to Central Pointe Christian senior Victor Rosa with 16 points. Rosa has committed to play next year for Florida Gulf Coast. Arizona Compass was led in scoring by Sincere Parker with 18 points. Parker is entertaining offers from several schools including Long Beach State, New Mexico and Grand Canyon. Seryee Lewis for Arizona Compass, has many offers that include Murray State and UT Martin.
