Public Information Meeting about the Asian Carp Crisis on Kentucky & Barkley Lakes. Tuesday, October 29, 2019 6:30pm Kentucky Dam Village Convention Center.
Kentucky Lake Tourism has seen steady declines since the discovery of Asian Carp in the lakes starting in 2008. Fishing tourism has drastically declined in 2019 by 75% or more on both Kentucky and Barkley Lakes. Western Kentucky fishing tourism accounts for over $1.2 billion in revenue to the economy. The lakes area consists of $700 million of that number.
While increased Federal and State funding and resource allocations are imminent to help aid the War On Carp, we still need more to help restore the tourism and fishing at Kentucky & Barkley Lakes.
Matt Quinn, owner of HITEC Outdoors, will be presenting a new festival idea designed to fund initiatives that will help protect and restore our fisheries and communities that have been affected by the invasive species, Asian Carp. We are encouraging the public to get involved by volunteering and signing up for committees to bring the festival to fruition.
